What your job will be like:
You will be working in the highly regarded Jefferson Lab Radio Frequency (RF) group. We are seeking an entry-level electrical engineer who is interested in resolving problems and developing solutions for accelerator RF systems both in the field and office. You will participate daily in maintaining the RF systems, perform tests on existing equipment to characterize and analyze performance. In addition you will develop test algorithms and programs to improve the operational RF systems. The individual will collaborate with physicists, engineers, computer scientists, technicians, and accelerator operators to resolve operational issues and concerns. Under minimal supervision, the incumbent will learn and perform design, repair, and testing, following safety guidelines, for tasks such as data collection & analysis, RF system troubleshooting, and programming.

On-call support of RF systems installed in the particle accelerator(s) during scheduled operational periods is required.

In this role, you will...

  • Maintain “real” time the CEBAF accelerator RF systems.
  • Develop new algorithms and procedures to improve RF system operability and availability.
  • Analyze data and make recommendations for hardware and software improvements.
  • Interact daily with accelerator physicists, engineers, technicians and operators

Qualifications We Require:


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering Technology

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact constructively with technical staff in a dynamic R&D environment are required
    • Experience with the following software is desired but not required; MATLAB/Simulink, VHDL/Verilog firmware languages, AutoCAD, python, C/C++, EPICS or LabView.
    • Experience with the following test equipment is desired; oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal source analyzer.
    • Fundamental understanding of physic concepts (kinematics and electromagnetics) is highly desired.
    • Ability to work independently and proactively to maintain electronic systems
