What your job will be like:

Are you ready to take on the challenge of representing Jefferson Lab as a subject matter expert in industrial safety? We are seeking a Safety Engineer to modify existing and develop new laboratory policy, procedures and training based on relevant governing standards and best practices Come and join our team!

In this role you will:

  • Represent JSA as a subject matter expert in industrial safety program areas such as work at heights, machine tools, hazardous energy control, material handling, industrial ergonomics, construction safety, etc.
  • Review various line organization's work planning documents and designs to assure safe and compliant activities are being planned
  • Identify and conduct oversight, and mentoring opportunities to assure that JSA safety and health policy is understood and executed across the entire scope of laboratory operations
  • Continuously interact with laboratory management, staff and committees to gauge the performance of the Industrial Safety program and develop/implement corrective actions and improvement activities
  • Participate in investigations and assessments including the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Establish a network with counterparts at other DOE laboratories and other appropriate organizations for the sharing of lessons learned and best practices and recommend changes/improvements to JSA policy or practices based on these communications
  • Mentor junior ES&H staff as assigned

Qualifications We Require:

Education:

  • Relevant BS degree

    Experience:

    • 10 years relevant experience

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Able to effectively train people outside his/her work group.
    • Able to give effective presentations to critical/high level customers and effectively represent work group on review panels and cross-organizational teams.
    • Can write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for external consumption.
