The DC Power Group is looking to hire up to 2 DC Power Technicians.

What your job will be like:
As a DC Power Technician in the DC power group, you will work with the design, construction, and maintenance of power converters from a few hundred watts up to 1MW continuous power, with embedded controls for remote operations. The DC Power Group is also involved in providing services to experimental Halls and other R&D groups in support of their power converter systems.
In this role, you will:

  • Follow verbal and written guidance to diagnose, repair and calibrate analog and digital electronics modules down to the component level
  • Provide real-time support of existing DC Power systems with assigned team members
  • Follow guidance from supervisor or senior team leaders in installation and testing of power systems, including point-to-point wiring of AC and DC power systems and mechanical installation
  • Read electrical schematics, electronics schematics and wiring schematics to facilitate repair and maintenance
  • Follow guidance from supervisor to conduct electrical work on equipment with voltages upto 2kilo-Volts and upto 5kilo-Amperes in accordance with established safety standards
  • Use electronics skills to assemble, test and calibrate electronics within chassis assemblies or printed circuit boards (PCB)
  • Preventative maintenance tasks on electronics components and the associated mechanical assemblies and cooling systems
  • Follow supervision of coordinators, engineers or senior technicians to complete projects within schedule.

Participating in On-Call rotations and emergency repair of DC power equipment, in support of 24-hour a day operation of the accelerator, will be required for this position.

Qualifications We Require:

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • 2 years relevant experience in the field of electronics, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have proven background or completed course-work in basic electrical theory, analog and digital electronics and practical experience with electronics repair and maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate practical knowledge of basic electrical measurement equipment including handheld meters and electronic test equipment.
  • The ability to recognize basic electrical components, read basic electrical schematics and follow wiring diagrams.
  • Practical experience with common hand held tools, power tools and portable tools .
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Must be able to communicate progress and status of work verbally and electronically.
  • Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets.

Qualifications We Desire:

Education:

  • An Associate of Science degree in electronics engineering

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with software programming tools is desired.
