What your job will be like:
The Spectrometer Support Group is currently seeking a motivated Mechanical Technician to work under the general supervision of the Spectrometer Support Group Leader and the Hall-A Work Coordinator. In this position, you will work individually or as part of a team on all aspects related to the installation and de-installation of physics experiments in Halls A and C. You will be asked to exercise good judgment in completing assignments and must possess the ability to understand instructions, ask questions and report to supervisor clearly on problems, progress and status. A successful incumbent will frequently be assigned multiple tasks in which they show positive progression and the work will often need to be completed in parallel.

In this role, you will:

  • Fabricate parts, assemble equipment and work with conventional machine tools such as lathe, mills, band saw, etc.
  • Be responsible for safe and efficient equipment troubleshooting and repairs
  • Install and maintain magnets, power supplies, vacuum beam line components and cryogenic transfer systems for nitrogen and helium
  • Be required to complete and remain current on a series of mandatory safety training requirements prior to working inside Experimental Halls A and C
  • Be required to operate cranes, forklifts, trucks with trailers, and aerial platforms on a regular basis

Qualifications We Require:

Education & Experience:

  • Relevant associates Degree & 3 years of related experience or High School Diploma and 5 years of related experience

Qualifications We Desire:


  • Some familiarity with basic electronics is a plus.
