This is a year-round position for full time undergraduate students available to work part-time during fall and spring semesters and full-time during summer semesters.

What your job will be like:

Are you a full-time undergrad student seeking to jump-start your career? The Computational Sciences and Technology (CST) Division at Jefferson Lab seeks a Technical Student Intern to work with the User Services/Help Desk Group within the Computing and Networking Infrastructure (CNI) Department to provide end-user computing support. This includes .

In this role you will:

    • provide desktop support for Windows, Macintosh OS X, and various releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    • troubleshoot hardware, operating systems, network, and supported application issues
    • complete and document resolution of problem reports, and maintain on-line documentation
    • potentially work on projects for other groups within the CNI Department and the CST Division

        Qualifications We Require:


        • Applicant must be enrolled in a local university as a full-time college student with a GPA of 2.5 or better. Enrollment in a computer-related major preferred. Proof of full-time status and copies of transcripts are required prior to interview (unofficial copies are acceptable).


              • No experience required


              • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
              • Must be available to work a minimum of 18 hours per week, with the maximum being 20 hours per week during school sessions, and 40 hours per week between school sessions (spring break, summer break, and winter break).

              Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

              • Ability to make good use of written and verbal instructions
              • Ability to understand and follow established computing policies
              • Possesses excellent communication skills both in writing and and in speech
              • Ability to lift and carry (for short distances) standard desktop computer equipment and peripherals, generally under 40 pounds.

              Qualifications We Desire:

              • The ideal candidate will possess an excellent working knowledge of the Windows operating system (OS).
              • Experience with Mac OS X and any Linux variant is preferred, as is a good working knowledge of local area network configuration.
              • A demonstrated experience in computer support is considered a plus in the evaluation of candidates.
